The Beast in the Bedchamber - edition by T.L. Bodine. Literature & Fiction eBooks @ . Reviews

A fascinating set of short stories, Beast in the Bedchamber will appeal to animal lovers and dark fantasy fans alike. There's a theme of sleep, transformation, and disconnection from reality, delusion even, that left me second-guessing myself from start to finish. Told with charming style, the stories' plot twists may not be astonishingly BIG, but each is unpredictable and impacting and I found myself having to contemplate each one. There are plenty of neat similarities and contrasts between stories, too-- for example, the final two--, that add an extra layer of creepiness to the collection. Very, very stimulating stuff!

My only concern is its length. At 80 pages it's the kind of book you can read in one sitting, and it will leave your curiosity piqued at that! Definitely recommended alongside more creepy reading.
To be honest I only made it to 56% before I couldn't take it anymore. This really isn't my type of preferred reading, but hey it might just be yours. It is filled with i think seven very short stories one of which is less than two pages and it looked like the longest is less than 15 (estimated). These are not romances as the bedroom part of the title might make you think...wanted to warn others so they wouldn't be disappointed like I was. Also, they are weird with a little creepy/old unhappy ending fairy tale type of thing going on. Not sure how to word that exactly. I'm not a fan of those. I like happy endings and love stories, and had I been warned I never would have read this book much less downloaded it. However, if you are into creepy or weird shorts then this might be the book for you...I will warn you it isn't scary it was the ick factor type of creepy.
I like short stories and I like fairy tales. I found this collection to be interesting and engaging. Each fairy tale (some that I was not familiar with) had a dark and unique twist that left me thinking after I read them. I enjoyed the stories and the writing and will seek out other works by this author.
First things first "The Beast in the Bedchamber" is a collection of six short stories and one brief narrative poem. All of them hearken back to fairy tales and classic magic stories - some are stylistically very fairy tale-ish themselves, with timeless surroundings and playful familiarity, and others are much more contemporary and urban. Some are also pretty darn suggestive (if the title wasn't clue enough), but those scenes are generally dreamlike and fleeting; these are stories for an adult audience, but they're not bodice-rippers.

What they are is magical. I'll keep the spoilers to a minimum, but the recurring theme is transformation - though not all transformations are equally kind to the transformed. Bodine pulls it all off with style; the shortest stories are clever and assured, and the longer ones are clever, assured, *and* filled with characters that fascinate more and more as they catch more light. [Reynardine is a standout - as he would almost have to be.]

It's not a very long collection, but I thought it was more than worth the asking price - it's thoughtful, charismatic, and a lot of fun.
This is a collection of chilling stories and poems that will embed themselves in your memory forever. Brilliantly written, T.L. Bodine is an exceptional writer who manages to paint hauntingly dark imagery through her written work. Some the stories and poems are surprising, and others are a bit more predictable. One in particular (White Cat) left me thinking a lot of different things, and I still can't quite put a finger on the emotional response it gave.

If you're looking for quick reads at bedtime, a collection of something a little haunting or just want to explore indie writers, then this book is a must. I absolutely loved it, and I will continue to read the stories over again and share with others. It's a great piece that should be part of your library!
